FRIENDS of a little girl who tragically died this week paid their own tributes last night.

They lit candles at Christ Church, New Mill, in memory of 10-year-old Rachael Latham.

The church was open for two hours to enable family, friends and school staff to pay their own personal tributes to Rachael.

The 10-year-old, who was a pupil at Wooldale Junior School, died on Tuesday.

She had collapsed at school on Monday and never recovered, despite the efforts of teachers at the school and medical staff.

Rachael was the oldest daughter of David and Deanna Latham, both doctors, who live in Pell Croft, Wooldale.

The couple have another daughter and a baby son.

Medical tests are continuing to discover how Rachael died.

It is believed she may have suffered an allergic reaction or a severe asthma attack.

The school cancelled its Christmas show and a Christmas party as a mark of respect for Rachael.
