THE youngest ever president of Huddersfield Law Society has attended a prestigious legal ceremony in London.

Solicitor Ranjit Uppal, aged 33, is a partner at law firm Parker Bird Gardner solicitors on Queen Street in Huddersfield town centre.

He attended the opening of the legal year in London on Monday.

It began with a service at Westminster Abbey where Mr Uppal was involved in an official procession followed by a reception with the Lord Chancellor.

He said: "It's rare for a law society president to be invited to this very special occasion.

"It is a rare privilege and decided on a random basis."

Mr Uppal, of Lindley, is married to Rajinder and the couple have a six-year-old daughter, Amrit, and a two-year-old son, Arun.

He graduated in law at Sheffield Hallam University and joined Parker Bird as a trainee in 1995.

He qualified in 1997 and became a partner in 2000.

Mr Uppal is a member of the Law Society Children's Panel and specialises in family law and childcare.

He also serves on the Law Society's Immigration Panel.
