One of Britain's most wanted men found ... working as a Kirklees Council car park attendant

A WANTED man who appeared on a national TV crime programme has been arrested in Huddersfield.

Police had appealed through the ITV Manhunt programme on Monday evening for helping finding 62-year-old James Dougill.

He was wanted for deception offences in Derbyshire, but had failed to turn up at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court in Derby in February 2004.

The Examiner can now reveal he was arrested in Huddersfield on Tuesday where he has been living and working.

The arrest followed tip-offs by people who had seen the programme.

Dougill - who had been using another name here - has been working as a Kirklees parking attendant and living in Dalton.

Kirklees Council could not comment about what checks had been made on him, stating the matter was now "sub-judice".

Dougill was taken back to Derbyshire and appeared before magistrates on Wednesday.

He was charged with obtaining a pecuniary advantage and two counts of using a false instrument.

We can reveal he is alleged to have used his friend, Thomas Ferguson's, identity when he sought employment with the Probation Service.

He is then said to have dishonestly earned £68,000 between August 1999 and March 2001.

A Derbyshire police spokeswoman said: "We had several phone calls following the programme and Mr Dougill was arrested in Huddersfield."

The Manhunt - Solving Britain's Crimes programme is a joint venture between police and Crimestoppers to ask for the public's help in tracking down people wanted in connection with Britain's unsolved crimes.
