A NEW car hire business is tuning up for the spring.

Summer Wine Classic Car Hire Ltd will be renting out stylish vehicles of the past from its base at Holmfirth.

The company will be offering famous cars for self-drive as well as a chaffeur-driven service for wedding and other special occasions.

The company has been set up by long-time car and bike enthusiast Richard Skelton and his partner, Loretta Catlow.

But instead of the conventional Rolls Royces, Diamlers or Bentleys, the duo have opted for classics of the Sixties and Seventies.

Vehicles chosen to get the business rolling include a 1961 Series One flat floor Jaguar E-Type and a 1964 Jaguar Mk II saloon, a gorgeous-sounding 3.0 litre V8 Triumph Stag from 1977 and two top notch MGB Roadsters. The cars are all in superb condition.

Said Richard: "The idea is for people to enjoy a holiday or special day with a difference by using one of our cars to tour around beautiful Pennine Yorkshire or to travel further afield in Yorkshire or into the Derbyshire Peak District.

"And if they want to, they can stay with us and use our home as a base for their break."

The vehicles are stored at the Jackson bridge premises of IK Classics and Racing Cars.

Owner Ian Kellett has been in the motor trade for 32 years and his technicians are also hugely experienced.

The cars have not been rented out during the winter due to the corrosive effect of road salt.

But Richard and Loretta will start taking bookings from March 25 onwards.

Summer Wine Classic Car Hire Ltd has also been accepted as a member of the Historic and Classic car Hirers' Guild.
