POLICE today released this photograph of a distinctive sports car hit by bullets in a shooting incident on Huddersfield ring road.

A 19-year-old man in this silver Mitsubishi FTO suffered a shoulder wound in the incident on Castlegate at its junction with Merton Street at 9.50pm on Saturday, September 29.

The Mitsubishi had stopped at traffic lights at the time of the incident.

The shooting occurred after another vehicle pulled up alongside and detectives have release the picture of the Mitsubishi in a bid to trace witnesses.

They believe people in a car that stopped behind the Mitsubishi at the traffic lights will have seen what happened and have today made a plea for the people in that car to come forward.

Det Insp Steve Hepplestone, of Huddersfield CID, said: "We are still trying to trace this light coloured, possibly silver, hatchback car which was immediately behind the Mitsubishi at the time of the shooting and drove off, turning left into Merton Street, afterwards.

"I am sure the occupants of this vehicle must have seen the incident and would appeal for them to come forward.

"We cannot rule out the possibility that this vehicle is connected to the incident in some way."

He said he was also sure there were other people who were on the ring road that night and saw what happened who had still not come forward.

"I would appeal for them to contact us immediately," he said.

Anyone with information should contact Huddersfield CID on 01484 436582.
