A FIRM wants to set up a caravan sales site in the Grimscar Valley.
West Yorkshire Caravans, based at Brockholes, has applied to Kirklees Council for planning permission for the plot on Halifax Road in Birchencliffe.
The buildings are now used as a car sales site and builder's yard.
They could become offices or sale rooms, while a large plot of land at the rear of the site could be used to display caravans.
The ground would remain grassed.
Some residents have written to Kirklees Council saying the development should not go ahead because it would spoil the area's natural beauty.
A decision on the application is due to be made by planning officers unless many objections are received or a ward councillor requests that the decision be made by a council committee.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Caravans said the firm did not want to comment as the plans were in their early stages and could yet change.
