A TOWN centre building will cut its carbon emissions.

The Cabinet has agreed to spend £36,000 on energy-saving heating and lighting at Brian Jackson House.

The building on New North Parade emits 101 tonnes of carbon a year – as much as 18 homes.

Kirklees officers estimate that the improvements – including push taps and better heating and lighting controls – will save 15 tonnes of carbon a year.

Some 250 people work at Brian Jackson House, which is the base of the National Children’s Centre. Around 100 people a day use the building’s meeting rooms while 200 people use the cafe.
