CHRISTMAS is still 72 days away – but you can get your shopping started early at Huddersfield Library.

The library is once again hosting its annual charity Christmas card shop on the bottom level of the building at Princess Alexandra Walk.

The temporary shop opened for business on Monday and will be selling cards, gift wraps and Christmas accessories on behalf of many different charities.

The shop will open from 10am to 4pm from Monday to Saturday, until December 16.

It is run by Cards For Good Causes, a national organisation that co-ordinates 350 temporary shops across the country.

Volunteers staff the shop to keep costs to a minimum and a total of 79p of every £1 made goes to charity.

Cards For Good Causes was set up in 1959 when James Jackson, secretary of the British Diabetic Association, gathered a group of medical charities to sell charity cards for Christmas.

The name Cards For Good Causes was not used until 1971.

In 1988 it was established at the trading arm of The 1959 Group of Charities.
