A HOLMFIRTH care home has reached the finals of a healthcare design contest.

White Rose House Nursing and Care Centre - which is behind Holme Valley Memorial Hospital - is one of three homes to reach the final of the Pinders/This Caring Business Healthcare Awards.

The home is in the "best new development for the elderly" class.

Each of the three finalists will be assessed in February on how well the needs of residents have been incorporated into the design of the buildings.

Architectural standards will also be judged.

White Rose House - which provides 40 residential beds and 20 nursing beds for the local community - was completed last July by building firm Conroy Brook.

The design took into account views from the local community and hospital staff, as well as healthcare professionals.

Meridian Care owns White Rose House.

Susan Firth, operations director of Meridian Care, said she was delighted that it had made the final three.

"Congratulations and thanks must go to everyone involved in this development.

"White Rose House is what we consider to be a five-star facility.

"I am very pleased this has been recognised at a national level."

Winners of the competition will be announced at a lunch in London in March. All the finalists will received for £500 for their nominated local charity.
