A CARE worker was royally rewarded for 40 years’ loyal service in Huddersfield.

Kirklees Council care assistant Michael Lee, of Lesley Way, Crosland Hill, went to one of the Queen’s garden party at Buckingham Palace.

The 64-year-old said: “I never expected to get this kind of recognition. To me it is a job I love.

“It was a complete shock.”

Mr Lee worked for 34 years at Hartley Manor Bradley residential home, now Bradley Court.

He now works at Moorview Hostel in Crosland Moor, working with mentally disabled people.

He was nominated by Mark Greaves, the council’s head of adult services.

Mr Lee went to the garden party with colleague Mandy Toth.

As well as the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward were all present.

Mr Lee said: “It was a beautiful day. There were marquees with tables laden with food and two military bands.

“It was a lovely day, a really special event to remember.”
