A HUDDERSFIELD nurse manager has retired after 43 years of NHS service.

Patients and staff at Lindley Special Care Unit, Lidget Street, Lindley, said a fond farewell to Sue Dodsworth, who has spent her career caring for people with profound learning disabilities.

Sue, 58, of Kirkburton, joined South-West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust when she started work at the former Storthes Hall Hospital, Kirkburton.

She later transferred to Middlewood Hospital in Sheffield, before moving to the Lindley unit, which provides day and respite care for adults.

To celebrate her retirement, staff at the centre held a special party.

Sue, who has a daughter and one grand-daughter, said: "I've enjoyed close contact with the clients, their families and other professionals involved in the service.

"I still intend to do temporary work and placements in my retirement.

"I am going to try to think about myself - I want to take more exercise.

"I'm also looking forward to the birth of my second grandchild - and getting a dog."
