VILLAGERS in Emley are helping to rebuild schools in Kenya.

Over the last six years three schools have been rebuilt and a new nursery created. Work on another primary school is well under way.

More than £50,000 has been raised with the help of local Rotarians since 1998.

Fundraiser Rosemary Donnan said: "We also have 16 children who are sponsored at a cost of £100 a year. The fundraising is all done around Emley, and myself and my husband visit once a year to keep an eye on the projects."

The fundraising team is a small group from St Michael's Church, Emley.

Mrs Donnan said the village would hold an African fair at the football club in Emley on November 13, from 10am to 4pm. There will be a stall selling African jewellery and carvings, a craft stall, a home baking stall, a tombola and a second-hand book stall.

The fair has been held annually for four years and last year it raised £1,000 for the schools.
