HUGE crowds are expected in Huddersfield tomorrow for the spectacular that is Carnival.

The event is the 26th but it will be the first to be centred on St George’s Square.

The Square events will follow a colourful and noisy procession through the town centre tomorrow afternoon.

And organisers have also arranged smaller shows in The Piazza and in St Peter’s Gardens to showcase music and dance from the Caribbean.

The highlight of the event is the parade and that is scheduled to leave the Hudawi Centre in Great Northern Street at 2pm.

The floats, bands and dancers will then head through the town centre via Willow Lane, St John’s Road, John William Street, Market Place, Cloth Hall Street, Market Street and Railway Street into St George’s Square.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “We hope it will be one of our best events yet.

“We cannot use Greenhead Park as we have in the past because of the renovations but the Square is a great setting for the main stage and all the events”.

Police have warned of traffic disruption throughout the Bradford Road area and town centre throughout the afternoon.
