THE newly revived Berry Brow Carnival was a huge success.

Hundreds of local people turned out to the event at Berry Brow recreation field on Saturday afternoon, just in time to see the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Julie Stewart-Turner, open the day’s entertainment.

The carnival was resurrected only last year after a gap of more than 20 years, and since it was such a success, many people urged organisers to hold another one this year.

And they didn’t let their fans down.

Activities included a number of workshops teaching youngsters DJing skills, beat boxing and dance, and a performance by music group Detonatorz.

For the slightly more reserved visitors, there was also a tent containing demonstrations on massage and relaxation, and first aid from St John Ambulance volunteers.

Committee members had been raising money for many months to pay for the event, by holding events such as a car boot sale, quizzes, and raffles.
