A CAROL concert held at Huddersfield Town Hall yesterday raised money for the West Yorkshire Forget-Me-Not Trust.

The cash will go to build a children's hospice and respite centre, planned for Brackenhall.

One of the organisers, charity fundraiser Gina Fielding, said: "The event was excellent. Everybody enjoyed it."

Taking part were Scissett Middle School children, conducted by Judith Sims, the U3A Choir conducted by Eric Cooper, and the Kirklees Youth Orchestra conducted by Thom Meredith.

About 500 people attended the event, supported by the Examiner, and everybody got to join in with familiar carols.

Father Christmas was also there and presented an award to Katie Walsh, of Scisset Middle School, who had designed the front cover of the programme as part of a competition.
