A HUDDERSFIELD woman has landed a dream role in the musical Chicago after shining through in the TV series, Musicality.

Caroline Graham, of Newsome Road, Newsome, is one of the five winners plucked from 2,000 hopefuls in the Channel 4 programme.

She will now star as murderess vamp, Velma Kelly, in a one-night production of Chicago at London's Adelphi Theatre on November 25.

The role was immortalised by Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta-Jones in the film version of the musical.

A spokeswoman for Chicago said: "Chicago is a particularly gruelling show to learn.

"It takes enormous stamina and physical agility to sing and dance simultaneously for over two hours but the hard work has just begun."

Caroline's family including mum Pauline, dad Richard, brother Nicholas, 20, grandma Mona Graham and other relatives are hoping for front of house seats when they travel to the capital to see the show next week.

Proud mum Pauline said: "She's amazing and she's done really well, we're all so proud of her.

"It's something she wanted to do since she was 14 - appear in a West End musical - and now she's going to realise her dream."

Mrs Graham revealed that Caroline, 23, had put her job as a physiotherapist at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on hold while pursuing her dream in the Channel Four contest.

The former Newsome High and Greenhead College pupil has been dancing she was six years old with the Audrey Spencer School of Dance.

She has performedlocally with Woodhouse Operatic Society and in 1998 took the lead role of Roxy Hart in the Huddersfield premiere of Chicago.

She also appeared in Little Shop of Horrors, again in a principal role with Woodhouse, and played the lead in 42nd Street for Huddersfield Amateurs at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.

Channel Four will broadcast highlights of the production on December 1 at 9pm.
