KIRKLEES COUNCIL has approved calls to boost visual impairment provisions in the region.

The Kirklees Scrutiny Panel reviewed services after members of Huddersfield’s ‘Better Future For The Blind’ group led campaigns for a review of representation, recruitment and leisure facilities for the Town’s visually impaired community.

Councillors met on March 19 with members of the BFFTB to discuss proposals submitted by themselves and other regional VIP associations.

As a result of the talks the Scrutiny Panel recommended these associations combine to create a comprehensive group for Huddersfield’s visually impaired community.

Other recommendations included employing Eye Clinic Liaison Officers in regional hospitals and applying for more funds from Social Services.

A letter to Primary Care was sent on April 3 and Better Future For the Blind now await their response.
