BACKERS of a bid to crown Huddersfield the UK Capital of Enterprise put their case to regional officials.

An impressive document detailing the town's entrepren- eurial credentials has been presented to regional development agency Yorkshire Forward.

The agency will consider Huddersfield's bid alongside others from towns and cities across Yorkshire.

Judges will choose one bid to represent the region in the national final of the Treasury-led contest to find the UK's Capital of Enterprise next spring.

Some of Huddersfield's most forward-looking firms helped ensure that the document catches the eye by contributing to its appearance and contents.

The bid information is contained in a folder made from fine worsted supplied by Bradley-based weaver C and J Antich and Sons.

The document is backed in recycled computer circuit boards supplied by Cutouts Ltd, of Bolster Moor.

And it is bound by specialist commercial binder Autobind, of Denby Dale.

A digital video made by Leagus Video, Huddersfield, illustrates the work of dynamic young businesses in the town.

And it shows how Huddersfield trades across the world, from San Francisco to Tokyo and Oslo to Sydney.

A nine-page summary to support nine separate information packs focuses on the success of private-public partnerships; the rise of new industries in areas like film and TV production, internet services and website design; work in education and training; support offered to start up firms and the activities of local community groups.

The bid is spearheaded by regeneration company Huddersfield Pride with support from the town's university, Kirklees Council, Business Link West Yorkshire, Huddersfield Business Generator, creative agency QT and the Media Centre at Northumberland Street.

Examiner readers have added their backing by voting for the bid online and providing evidence of enterprising activities from individuals and organisations big and small.

Media centre manager Toby Hyam, who co-ordinated the bid, said: "The team has submitted a strong argument for Huddersfield.

"By the end of the month, we will know if we have been chosen."
