A HUDDERSFIELD club for youngsters with Down's Syndrome has received a £515.21 boost.

The Tuesday Club, run by Huddersfield Down's Syndrome Support Group, meets at the Greenfield Family Centre in Dalton. It provides activities for about 20 youngsters and has been run by volunteers for three years.

With the dark winter nights preventing outdoor activities, the children decided to apply to the Kids Count scheme, run by Involving Young Citizens Equally for a grant to buy indoor play equipment.

IYCE is part of the Kirklees Young People's Service and hands out money from the Children's Fund Kirklees through grants.

Club members and leaders are pictured receiving the cheque from IYCE worker Melanie Tiernan (front, centre).

Kids Count grants are available for any project run by children which will benefit the community. There are similar grants, called Make A Change, for 13 to 19-year-olds. In both cases, groups can apply for £1,000 a year.

IYCE has a total of £40,000 to give away each year.
