THE Yorkshire Building Society's branch in Lindley has celebrated its 23rd birthday with a charity cash giveaway.

The society celebrated the anniversary of its opening with a cake and banners.

Staff presented three £100 cheques from the building society's charitable foundation fund.

The charities which benefited were the Bridgewood Trust, Crossroads Caring for the Carer and Mencap.

The Bridgewood Trust, based at Armitage Bridge, promotes care, treatment and education for mentally handicapped people.

Crossroads Caring for Carers was set up in 1974 to provide short term breaks for carers in their own homes.

It is based in Rugby in Warwickshire.

Mencap offers services and advice to people with mental illness.

It plans to use the Yorkshire Building Society cash to support its day care services.
