STUDENTS keen to further their studies abroad have been urged to apply for funding.

The Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce is seeking suitable projects to back with cash from the Tinker Fisher Travelling Scholarship.

The fund is run by the Aspley-based chamber and awards are made annually to deserving students from Huddersfield University or Huddersfield Technical College.

Chamber spokeswoman Linda Gapper said organisers wanted students to apply for funding.

Previous winners have included students travelling to do conservation work in Australia, taking up a work placement in New York, or furthering their computer studies at a university in Florence, Italy.

Ms Gapper said: "Students winning the awards are asked to write a report on their project when they return.

"The scheme is not just restricted to students taking degree courses, but they must have been at the university or technical college for at least a year."

Details of the awards are available from Rachel Thurlbeck on 01484 438800.
