KIRKWOOD Hospice has been given a £6,000 donation - thanks to a grateful son.

The Dalton care centre has received £6,152 from the Pipeline Industries Guild.

Members of the guild's northern branch raised the cash at their annual dinner in Harrogate.

Branch chairman Mark Jordan lives at Scapegoat Hill.

Mr Jordan, who works for Skipton civil engineering company J N Bentley, chose Kirkwood to benefit from the cash because his mother, Maureen, was treated there during the summer of 2003.

He said: "The Kirkwood team deserves every penny raised. It is not until you need these people that you realise what a tremendous job they do," he added.

The hospice provides free care to Kirklees people suffering life-threatening illnesses.

It costs £200 a day for the hospice to care for a patient.

Annabel Arkless, the hospice's fundraising manager, said: "This money will fund a month's worth of round-the- clock nursing for someone. I am very grateful to Mark and the guild members for raising these funds."

The Pipeline Industries Guild was formed in 1957.

Its members have interests in pipelines world-wide - transporting hydrocarbon products, chemicals, water, waste water and many other substances.
