KIRKLEES Council is to invest £½m to improve public transport in rural areas.

It will mean better bus and rail services and links for people in areas such as Denby Dale, Kirkburton and the Valleys.

Now the money is secured the next step is to talk to local people about the transport service they have now and find out what they think will make it better.

Council officers will talk to local people and make contact with groups which they may be able to work with in future to deliver an improved transport service.

Following this, more details will be available on how the money is likely to be spent.

Clr David Hall, Kirklees Cabinet member for Transport, said: "This is great news. The money will provide a vital service to areas of Kirklees such as Denby Dale, Kirkburton and the Valleys where public transport is not as frequent.

“I look forward to working with councillors and partners to make sure we produce services which will be welcomed by residents of these areas.”
