WORKERS from David Brown Engineering in Lockwood battled blisters to raise cash for Kirkwood Hospice.

A team of ten walkers and two support staff trekked 40 miles from Keswick, in the Lake District, to Barrow-in-Furness on the Cumbrian coast to raise £1,200 for the Dalton hospice.

It is the sixth year a team from the firm has taken part.

They were among hundreds of people stepping out on an annual charity road walk which dates from the late 1960s.

The event began as a challenge between English and American shipyard workers at Barrow, but has grown to attract teams from businesses, schools and clubs from across the north.

One of the team of walkers, David Lockwood, said the trek was hard work.

He added: "Luckily the weather was good which helped a huge amount.

"We had a great spirit."

Organiser David Frost said: "Kirkwood Hospice is a wonderful charity to support because at one time or another so many people have been touched by it."
