A MULTI-MILLION pound casino has applied for a drinks licence.

Casino Red is transforming the former Princess Cinema into a £5m entertainment venue.

The company has applied to Kirklees Council for a licence to sell alcohol from 10am to 6am.

Casino Red is also asking for permission to put on live music at the Northumberland Street venue.

Comments can be posted by May 7 to The Licensing Officer, Queensgate Market Arcade, Princess Alexandra Walk, Huddersfield, HD1 2UH.

The company was granted a gambling licence last August.

The casino, which is due to open this summer, will offer a choice of games, including blackjack, roulette, poker and slot machines.

The venue will also boast a restaurant and live entertainment facilities.

It will employ around 100 full-time and part-time staff.

The casino will be spread over all four floors of the building.

The basement will house a poker room, while on the ground floor there will be a reception desk and relaxation area and the main casino floor.

The casino will hold five American roulette tables, five blackjack tables and 44 slot machine electronic roulette terminals.

On the first floor, reached via a spiral staircase and lift, there will be a bar and restaurant and stage area.

The third-floor gallery will hold a VIP area.
