EXAMINER readers are being urged to get their votes in for this year’s Community Chest charity giveaway.

This year £15,000 is up for grabs and 10 local groups have been shortlisted for a cash windfall.

Readers can still vote for their favourite project by sending in the voting slips which are appearing in the Examiner every day.

Last year, more than 60,000 tokens were sent in resulting in the Friends of Beaumont Park being crowned the overall winners.

This year, another batch of worthy groups are in the running to receive cash for specific projects, but some of them stand to miss out on their share if readers don’t get their votes in on time.

Natasha Maskery, the Examiner’s marketing executive, said fewer votes have been received so far compared with this time last year.

She said: “I think there are two main reasons why we have not had as many votes. One reason is that some of the projects are not as high profile as last year’s and perhaps don’t have as much support behind them. Another reason is we are running Community Chest over six weeks instead of eight.

“But these projects deserve support and it’s really important that readers get their votes in now for their favourites to make sure that they don’t miss out.”

The voting slips will be printed until September 15 and readers have until midday on September 24 to get their votes in.

Voting slips can be dropped off at local branches of Barclays, which is sponsoring the competition. The bank has a main branch in Huddersfield town centre and other branches in Milnsbridge, Fartown, Holmfirth and Skelmanthorpe.

Votes can also be taken to participating newsagents, dropped in at the Examiner office on Queen Street South or posted to our office.
