It's Huddersfield’s most famous landmark.

And people want Castle Hill to be looking at its best once the weather improves and thousands of visitors make their way up there.

So volunteers turned out to join Castle Hill Ranger Julian Brown give the hill something of a Spring clean.

They spent hours collecting sackfuls of rubbish, some left behind by visitors and more blown there by the winds.

Mr Brown said: “We have had a few volunteers since we started the pick-ups and we plan more this year.

“Any amount of litter collected improves Castle Hill. With the high winds we have been getting recently the litter can literally take off from the summit.

“We are extremely grateful to the volunteers who turn up and help us.”

Victoria Tower at the top of the hill is expected to open to visitors at Easter and then at weekends through the summer.
