A MAJOR change at Castle Hill, pictured, has been delayed.

Kirklees Council’s Cabinet had been due to decide last night if the area should be classified as a Local Nature Reserve.

According to a council report, the move would “give a strong foundation for defence against competing land uses”. Declaring an LNR may make it more difficult for Mick and Barry Thandi to win planning permission for a pub at the site.

The Labour Cabinet agreed to defer the decision after Green leader Clr Andrew Cooper said residents had not been consulted on the proposal.
