There's plenty to be a-mazed by at this cycling-themed maze.

Sarah Williams and her family at Jowett House Farm were inspired by the Grand Depart to create a cyclist for this year’s Maize Maze attraction.

The popular maze at Cawthorne, near Cannon Hall Country Park, usually follows the animal theme of the working farm, but the Williams’ son David, a newly-graduated architect, used his design skills to create the cyclist in a maize crop.

And this photo, taken by a heli-drone brought by Michael May and Will Theile of Flythru, shows the maze in full.

David Williams donned goggles to view the footage of the drone in real time, then took the photograph.

Mrs Williams said: “We start planning the maze after Christmas and the crop was planted on Easter Monday and then when it’s about six inches high we mark the pattern out in early June and then drill (cut) the crop.

“When we sent the drone up was the first time any of had seen it from the air. It was amazing and everything we hoped it would be.”

The maize is open daily from 10.30am until 6pm until September 1 – and then the crop becomes dinner for the farm’s 180 cows.

Mrs Williams added: “We have lots of children visit and we always tell them the crop is the cows Christmas dinner.”
