TOWN hall bosses are driving on with their plan for CCTV at Huddersfield Library.

The Examiner reported in October how £22,000 was to be spent on cameras inside and outside the building.

Now an application for planning permission has been tabled.

Council official Ken Archer said: "The installation of the CCTV system is to ensure the safety and security of both staff and public using Huddersfield Library and Art Gallery.

"There have been, and still are, numerous incidents of theft and anti-social behaviour both internally and externally."

The cameras would be small and unobtrusive, he said.
