A NEW centre for technophobes has opened in Birkby.

Birkby ICT, in Blacker Road, is aimed at people who have little or no knowledge of computers.

But there is plenty for the experienced computer whizz as well.

There are computers that can be used by anyone for free, whether for learning or just for fun.

The centre will be running courses in partnership with Huddersfield Technical College to allow people to become more confident in front of a monitor.

Local councillor Mehboob Khan called the learning centre "an important resource for the area".

He added: "The brilliant thing about it is that although a lot of people who don't know much about computers will use it the centre is open to all.

"You could go in and do a course or you could simply check your email and surf the web.

"We hope the centre will be busy with people looking for jobs and doing CVs, basically trying to further themselves."
