A RURAL therapy centre is planning a `party in the park' .

From 7pm to midnight on Sunday, August 29, the Ponde- rosa in Heckmondwike will be holding an open- air concert.

The profits will go towards keeping the centre financially stable through the winter.

The Ponderosa Rural Therapeutic Centre is a non-profit-making organisation.

It aims to bridge the gap between able-bodied and disabled adults and children.

It does this through focusing on animals and the environment.

There is a rare breeds farm, with about 300 animals and reptiles.

Almost half of the Ponderosa's staff have a learning difficulty or disability.

There is a day care centre where students - who also have disabilities - can learn about horticulture and recycling.

There is a craft shop and tearoom, where goods made by staff and students are sold.

The centre usually raises cash with a fete. But this year's event was rained off.

The theme on August 29 will be 1970s Mania.

Entertainment will be by tribute band Abba Forever.

There will also be a 70s disco, mobile pubs, a food trailer, hog roast and a fireworks finale.

Organiser Nicola Cook said: "It is fancy dress, so hopefully it will get everyone in the mood!"

There are 2,000 tickets for the event, which is open to over-16s only. Tickets cost £12.
