HECKMONDWIKE animal attraction Ponderosa has been given a donation of £1,800.

The rare breeds farm has been given the cash by the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

The money will be used at the Rural Therapeutic Centre on the farm.

The centre aims to bridge the gap between the disabled and disadvantaged and the rest of the community.

Ponderosa's Lisa Bownes said: "The centre currently provides very little play equipment for small children and we do not have any play equipment available for disabled children.

"We have designed a new play area which will offer a range of educational activities for children up to eight-years-old and are appealing for support to fund the project."

The Charitable Foundation has made a donation of £1,790.

The cash will be used to buy equipment for the play area including a dish roundabout easily accessed by wheelchair users.

Louise Neill, of the Charitable Foundation, said: "Ponderosa offers a unique service in our local area by providing a fantastic day out for all children.

"We are delighted to be able to buy equipment for the new play area, which will provide another great resource for the centre."
