PLANS are being drawn up for a shuttle service to take shoppers round Huddersfield town centre.

Kirklees Council officials are looking into the best ways of moving people from one shopping area to another.

Options include a minibus or a road train, similar to the children's one which tours the town centre during the run-up to Christmas.

Another possibility is a mini-tram, a small, wheeled coach which is guided electronically around a set route.

Victoria Podgorski, the council's public transport development officer, said the plans were in the very early stages.

She added: "This is something we have been looking at for some time.

"One of the difficulties is who pays for something like this?

"We are looking into getting cash partners, costing the different types of transport and weighing up their benefits.

"But no decision has been made yet and no routes have been planned."
