RUNNERS have been invited to take part in a new fundraising event.

Kirklees Council and Kirklees NHS are organising a 10-kilometre run in Batley.

Teams of three can also run the distance in relay and there will be a two-kilometre run for children under eight.

Clr Andrew Cooper came up with the idea to hold the run.

The Newsome Green councillor said: “This is a real opportunity to promote health and greater fitness in Kirklees. It’s also a chance for people to get sponsorship for their chosen charities. I’ll be doing the run myself and I hope to break the one-hour barrier.”

The run starts at 9am on Sunday, October 19 at Batley Sports and Tennis Centre.

The route, along Windmill Lane, Upper Batley Lane and Upper Batley Low Lane, will be closed to traffic.

Race entries must be in by October 12.
