VOLUNTEERS are needed to bring Christmas cheer to Huddersfield's lonely people.

The Salvation Army is again hosting a Christmas Day celebration for about 80 people who would otherwise be alone.

But now they need volunteers, to help get the guests to and from the party and to help out at the event, at Huddersfield Methodist Mission in Lord Street.

Capt Ernie Huby said: "We have sent out invitations and about 80 people are expected.

"This year, as we are based at the Methodist Mission, we are joining their 11am service and then having our Christmas lunch and party.

"There will be entertainment, a carol service and a tea before we take people home for about 5.30pm.

"But we do need helpers and I would appreciate any offers from people who can spare an hour or two on Christmas Day."
