A FORMER chapel of rest will be converted into a home if councillors give the go-ahead.

The building on Alfred Street, in West Vale, was a Sunday School before being converted into a chapel of rest in 1983.

The chapel is near to a carpenters workshop, a tanker parking area and a former church, and West Vale Primary School which stands opposite.

The proposal to convert the building will be put to Calderdale council's planning committee on April 25.

The application put forward by Halifax man Raja Yasin, has received two letters of objection from neighbouring businesses.

They raised the issue of noise problems and proposed parking arrangements.

The report by planning officer Duncan Hartley to be put to councillors, states that the building would have sufficient sound-proofing measures.

It is recommended that planning permission is granted, subject to the building work meeting approved plans.
