HOME care charges are set to rise. Social services chiefs at Kirklees Council want to put up the £5 hourly rate to £8. Almost half of the 3,400 people who have home care service will continue to get it free. More than 1,100 others will pay less than the full charge. It will be the first increase since April 2003. Clr Dennis Hullock, Cabinet member responsible for health and social care, said: "The revised charge will enable extra money to be raised to help pay for the intensive support that many people need to be able to remain in their own homes." A decision is to be made by Cabinet members next week.
