WOMEN licensees in Huddersfield have raised £2,000 for local charities.

The Huddersfield Ladies' Auxiliary Group, which is made up of women pub and hotel licensees, raised the cash by holding events over the past 12 months.

Events included outdoor darts, coffee mornings, quiz nights, pub crawls and fancy dress.

The £2,000 has been divided between five charities - the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary Chest Clinic, Huddersfield Cancer Support, the carers charity Crossroads, cerebral palsy charity Scope and the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust, which is raising cash for a children's hospice in Kirklees or Calderdale.

Cheques for £400 were given to representatives of each charity by Auxiliary president Janice Marsden.

The presentation took place at the Huddersfield Central Lodge in Beast Market, which is owned by Mrs Marsden's husband, Joe, and brother- in-law, John.

Joe Marsden said: "All the money they raise they try and give to local charities. The women put in a lot of hard work and go out of their way, because they have to run their own venues and families on top of the charity work."
