FAMILY support charity Home-Start Kirklees wants more people to join its team.

Parents or grandparents who have time to give and who make good listeners are needed to help the charity's valuable work.

Volunteers are introduced to referred families who may be struggling to cope because of illness, disability, lack of family support or relationship problems.

All those referred to the charity have at least one pre-school child and are visited in their own home by their volunteer and helped to get out and about and use local services.

The charity, which is Kirklees mayor Clr Mary Harkin's nominated charity, is holding a coffee morning next week to raise funds.

The mayor plans to attend the event.

People will be able to find out more about the charity or becoming a volunteer.

Scheme manager Jill Long asked people to support the event on Thursday April 21 from 10.30am to 1.30pm in the Old Court Room at Huddersfield Town Hall.

She said: "There will also be a cake stall and a bric-a-brac stall for bargain hunters."
