COUPLES getting married are being encouraged to follow in the footsteps of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The royal couple asked for charity donations instead of wedding gifts.
They set up a Royal Wedding charitable gift fund and 26 charities will benefit.
Now Marie Curie Cancer Care is asking couples in Huddersfield to do the same.
Community fundraiser Ann Hodgson said: “What better way is there to celebrate your wedding day than to help people in need?
“Marie Curie doesn’t make it on to the Royal Wedding list, but we hope to make it on to some in the region.
“This is a very special way to support our Marie Curie Nurses in West Yorkshire.”
All donations will help the charity provide home nursing care and support to terminally ill people in the region.
Each £20 pays for one hour of care and the service is totally free to patients and their families.
The charity also provides a range of wedding favours, which can be purchased online at www.mariecurie.org.uk
