FUNDRAISERS will soon be limbering up for this year’s Examiner Charity Challenge.

And organisers are calling on local charities to sign up now to cash in on the action.

They want them to attend a meeting at Salendine Nook on Wednesday February 25 at 7.45pm.

Last year’s challenge saw hundreds of people of all ages take to the roads of Meltham to raise thousands of pounds for local good causes.

The 21st fundraiser takes place in May and organisers are asking local organisations to get on board and help make this year’s event an even greater success.

Bob Armitage, who is helping organise the event, said: “Last year 95 organisations of all sizes signed up to take part and we’re hoping even more will take part and make this year’s event even bigger and better.

“It’s a real community event and the more charities that can benefit from it the better.

“It’s a great opportunity to raise vital funds, particularly for the smaller charities who don’t get as much publicity or have the same means to stage fundraisers as the bigger ones.”

Last year’s event saw people of all ages and abilities take to a variety of routes to raise money for the charity of their choice.

These included walking routes, cycle and horse rides, a pushchair route and even a four-mile Nordic walk.

Organisers make some route changes each year to keep the event fresh and this year they include a new horse route from Snowgate Head and a wheelchair and pushchair route path starting at Beaumont Park.

The event is organised by Huddersfield Lions, who are staging a meeting next Wednesday for charities to find out more about taking part.

At the meeting organisations will able to find out what it is like to be involved and ask organisers any questions.

Mr Armitage said: “It will be the launch of the event and we are encouraging charities not involved who would like to find out more to come along.

“There must be charities that can benefit from it who don’t know about it or how to get involved, but it’s really easy to take part.

“It’s also an easy fundraiser for them because we do all the work, from organising the day to collecting the money.

“Last year 1,200 people took part and it’s a fun, family day out which is extremely well supported by the community.

“It’s an opportunity for the Lions to offer our organisational ability to the community and help charities boost their profiles as well as their funds.”

The meeting for charities interested in taking part is next Wednesday at Salendine Nook YMCA at 7.45pm.
