CHARITY fundraisers are taking their work out on to the roads – after being handed the keys to their first official car.

Locals will soon be able to see fundraisers for the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust zipping around in the Toyota IQ, which is decked out with the charity’s name and flower logo.

The brand new vehicle was donated to the charity by the West Riding Toyota car dealership on Leeds Road.

It is the first time the charity – which is working to build a children’s respite centre and hospice in Huddersfield – has had a fully branded car.

Staff say they are in a spin over the possibilities which having their own set of wheels will have for the charity.

Lauren Moore, community and development fundraiser for the Trust, said: “We couldn’t believe it when they offered us the car, it was such a generous thing to do.

“We had a company car a few years ago but this is our first fully branded charity car.

“It is such a big year for us and the car will be great for when we are out about fundraising and going to meetings.

“It’s the perfect way to show people what we do and encourage them to find out more – it’s like having our own big portable advert for the charity!”

Over the coming weeks the fundraising team will be using the car to attend events including galas and fairs all over Kirklees.

It is hoped it will be a big boost in what is set to be a vital year for the charity as it starts building work on the Brackenhall site and providing care for families within their own homes.

Staff at the Toyota dealership plan to support the charity in the future and fundraisers hope seeing their car out and about will encourage others to get involved too.

Lauren said: “We’re out and about all the time and this will be a great way to get across to people what we do when we’re at events or just driving through our catchment areas.

“Hopefully people will keep an eye out and give us a wave and maybe go on to the website later to find out about us and how they can get involved with fundraising.”
