A COWLERSLEY cancer survivor has completed a fundraising challenge to thank the people who helped him overcome the disease.

Bill Tonge, 58, tackled the Three Peaks of Yorkshire walk on September 16.

He raised £300 in sponsorship, which he will be splitting equally between the Prostate Cancer Charity and the Urology Unit at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Mr Tonge underwent surgery for prostate cancer at HRI six months ago and was supported by the Prostate Cancer Charity.

He is now in remission.

He said:

"It was my way of saying thank you to everyone who helped me."

Mr Tonge completed the 26-mile walk in 10 hours and 30 minutes.

The walk is to the summits of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

He was accompanied by members of his walking group, the Huddersfield-based Woodfield Walkers.
