FUNDRAISERS are hoping to support the work of a donkey sanctuary by staging a six-mile ride on Saturday, March 19.

Organisers hope it will raise enough money to send animal lover Cris Langton on a fundraising mission to India.

The walking challenge in Dharamsala, northern India, will raise money and awareness for the work of Devon-based Donkey Sanctuary, which works to improve conditions for donkeys and mules around the world.

Cris has supported the work of the sanctuary for years.

She said: “The pictures of donkeys sent by the Sanctuary show the dreadful state of some of the donkeys they have helped. When I saw that the Sanctuary was planning a trek to India to raise money for their work I saw this as an opportunity to increase the help I have been able to provide over the years.”

Cris needs to raise a minimum of £2,500 for the trip and her daughter Tanya Stanisclaus has organised the horse ride to help.

So far about 14 riders have signed up for the walk and she hopes more will pledge their support.

The horse ride will take place in various village locations on the same day, including Farnley Tyas, Linthwaite and Kirkheaton.
