A CHARITY football tournament in memory of a deceased player ends this month after a decade.

Soccer teams will meet at Holmbridge on Sunday, August 26, to play for the Carver Trophy.

The competition has been held in memory of Skelmanthorpe footballer Nick Wright, who died in June 2002 aged just 27.

He played for several local sides including Upperthong, Wooldale and The Nook.

But this year’s game will be the last, say family and friends.

Nick was engaged to Kelly Sykes for eight years and her parents, Gwen and Bob, organised the charity games.

Mrs Sykes said: “This year is the 10th anniversary and the families have decided that it is time to end it.

“We hope people will come out and support us one last time, both at the game and afterwards at The Bridge, where there will be fundraising events.”

The match kicks off at 11am.
