A CHARITY worker has appeared in court after driving without valid insurance.

Lithuanian-born Adrejus Jermolenko was before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.

Magistrates were told that on April 26, he was stopped by police as he drove around Huddersfield.

The 30-year-old had been driving for the charity Woodlands Cancer Care and was collecting bags of items left outside homes.

But although Jermolenko had a European driving licence, he did not have business insurance for the vehicle.

He was convicted and later arrested by police after failing to turn up for a court appearance to consider his disqualification.

Magistrates were told that Jermolenko, of Stamford Street, Bradford, had enough points on his licence to be banned from driving.

But they agreed to adjourn the case for an exceptional hardship hearing so that he can ask them not to disqualify him.

Jermolenko was readmitted to unconditional bail until the hearing on November 15.
