A CHARITY is calling on people across Yorkshire to help up to 14m people in urgent need of aid across East Africa.

Oxfam says rocketing food prices risk pushing millions of people across East Africa towards hunger and destitution.

An estimated 9m to 14m people need urgent humanitarian help.

Oxfam is working with people in Ethiopia, Somalia and northern Kenya to help stop the crisis getting worse, reaching an estimated 500,000 people with water, food and cash.

The charity says it needs the support of people throughout the country to make a difference to their emergency aid operation.

A spokeswoman said: “It doesn’t matter how much you give; please give whatever you can afford.’’

Safe water for 25 people costs £18, a feeding pack for a family is £20 and an essential hygiene kit costs £25.
