GREEN-fingered Linthwaite girl Charlotte Hulley has managed to turn a tiny seed into a towering sunflower.

Charlotte, four, brought a sunflower seed home from Linthwaite Methodist Playgroup in May and planted it in the garden of her home on Copres Avenue.

Now, the little seed has grown into a gigantic 7ft flower, which towers above the rest of the garden.

The plant has two flowers on its stem and is showing no signs of slowing down its growth.

Charlotte’s mum Deborah has several other sunflowers she has planted herself and says they are taking over her garden.

“I didn’t expect them to grow so big. I haven’t done anything except tie them up to stop the steams breaking. They are absolutely enormous, especially Charlotte’s. She’s amazed that something so big could come out of such a little seed.”

Mrs Hulley would like to know how big sunflowers are expected to get and when they are likely to stop growing.

She said: “I wonder if anybody can beat them? I would also like to know when they are going to stop!”
