GREETLAND singer Nikk Mager and his boy band Phixx have seen their new single shoot into the charts at number 19.

The ballad, Strange Love, is the first assault on the charts by Nikk, 20, and bandmates Chris Park, Andrew Kinlochan and Mikey Green since fifth member Peter Smith left the group last year.

Strange Love was released on January 24 and went straight into yesterday's Official Top 40 chart at 19.

The video for Strange Love was shot in South African, when Phixx performed at Nelson Mandela's Christmas party.

Phixx's last hit was a cover of Duran Duran's song Wild Boys. It reached 12 in the charts last June.

Before that, Love Revolution hit 13 last March.

Phixx's most successful track has been their debut hit, Hold On Me, which reached number 10 in the charts in October, 2003.

The band performed this song shortly before its release at Huddersfield Grammar School, where Nikk used to be a pupil.
